The West Somerset LETS (Local Exchange and Trading System) Group invites you to an evening of inspiration at the screening of QU’EST-CE QU’ON ATTEND (What are we waiting for?) on Monday 5th March 7:30pm at The Regal Theatre Minehead.

This documentary by award-winning director Marie-Monique Robin covers a year in the life of the French village of Ungersheim and how it embraced the concept of Transition towards a sustainable future. The process isn’t easy but the infectious enthusiasm and visionary leadership of the Mayor leads to a range of initiatives including Passivhaus co-housing, food-growing, and community renewables projects. The people doing Transition are the film’s characters, the Mayor, the young, the old, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Perhaps even more importantly than the jobs created and the CO2 emissions cut we see people’s sense of what is possible changing. We see the emergence of a collective sense of purpose, and the deep delight that comes from relearning how to work together. We see how many of the myths that underpin our individualised contemporary culture are just that, myths. We start to see how the vision of Ungersheim as “an island of shared happiness” can be replicated in our own towns and villages.

Do we need to renew and extend our efforts to combat and mitigate climate change? Unfortunately the need is becoming ever more urgent. After a brief stall in their growth, human-caused carbon-dioxide emissions rose again in 2017, tightening the time constraint to restrict global warming from exceeding 2 degrees Celsius that scientists increasingly believe is important to ward off climate change's most catastrophic effects.

To get an idea of the film see the 2 minute trailer at Vimeo; and the review here by Rob Hopkins the originator of Transition Town concept. The film is subtitled.
